Veteran filmmaker Thampi Kannanthanam passes away
Malayalam film director Thampi Kannanthanam passed away on Tuesday afternoon. He was on ventilator support for the past two days in Aster Medicity, Kochi. Thampi Kannanthanamn (65) was a director, script writer and a noted producer. To his credit, he has directed 16 films, produced 5 films and scripted 3 films.
He debuted as a filmmaker in 1983 with the film ‘Thavalam’. He was most active in the Malayalam film industry during the period 1980-90. His most popular films include Rajavinte Makan,Vazhiyorakazchakal, Bhoomiyile Rajakkanmar, Indrajaalam, Naadody, Chukkan, and Maanthrikam..
Thambi Kannanthanam was very instrumental in the growth of Mohanlal as a star. His movie Rajavinte Makan had Mohanlal playing the role of underworld don Vincent Gomez. The massive success of the film earned Mohanlal the superstar tag. They have also collaborated for other films like Onnaman, Maanthrikan, Bhoomiyile Rajakkanmar, Indrajaalam and Vazhiyorakazchakal.
