Beef has more supporters than BJP; Huge sale of beef in Kerala yesterday!

On Friday, the Environment Ministry banned the sale of cattle for slaughter at animal markets across India. The ministry clarified that cattle means a bovine animal including bulls, bullocks, cows, buffaloes, steers, heifers and calves and includes camels. The regulation for cattle business allows only farmland owners to trade at animal markets. Hereafter, cattle buyers will have to give an undertaking that the animals are for agricultural practices and not for slaughter.

Following the announcement of cattle slaughter, social media saw a huge uproar. Many accused the government for taking such an unconstitutional decision that is not a priority in our country when we have enough problems like unemployment and poverty.

Keralites were totally against the rule and that was evident from all the trolls against the government. The sale of beef went up yesterday in Kerala. People posted photos of them having beef as a mark of their protest against the government’s rule. The popular voice was, “Beef is not just another food item, it’s more of an emotion and no one has the right to take it away“. The Pinarayi Vijayan led LDF government have opposed the centre’s rule and made it clear that they will not support this decision.

Celebrities like Aju Varghese, Tovino Thomas, Shaan Rahman, Vineeth Sreenivasan and Roopesh Peethambaran also took a dig at the government’s cattle slaughter ban that will indirectly put an end to the sale of beef in small scale.
