Kerala Box Office : Take Off Final Collection Report
Editor Mahesh Narayanan’s directorial debut Take Off is probably the most acclaimed Malayalam movie of the year as of now. The movie starring Parvathy Menon, Kunchako Boban, Fahadh Faasil and Asif Ali in major roles, is inspired from real life events. It is a fictionalized account of the 2014 incident where a group of Malayali nurses were held captive in the Tikrit region in Iraq.
Take Off, released on March 24 opened to extremely positive reviews from critics. After a slow start, the movie picked up with the positive word of mouth helping a great deal in attracting the audience. Leading stars like Mohanlal, Mammootty, Jayasurya, Kamal Haasan, Suriya and Sivakarthikeyan showered praise on the movie. The positive word of mouth has had a great impact in the box office collections.
According to reports from trade sources, Take Off has grossed Rs 16.5 cr crores from it’s theatrical run in Kerala. Since it’s a big budget movie, it can be given the status of a ‘hit movie’. With the rest of India & overseas gross, satellite and other rights, the movie is expected to have done a business of around Rs 20 crores.
Take Off had to compete with some biggies like The Great Father, 1971 Beyond Borders, Sakhavu and Puthan Panam during it’s theatrical run. But it managed to hold steady and successfully crossed the 50 days theatrical run.
Take Off was made as a tribute to late filmmaker Rajesh Pillai. It is funded by Anto Joseph and Shebin Becker in association with Rajesh Pillai Films. Mekha Rajesh Pillai is the executive producer of the movie.
