High expectations for Mammootty’s upcoming releases!
Megastar Mammootty has had mixed 2018 so far with two failures and one big blockbuster. While his Puthan Panam and Pullikkaran Staraa tanked at the box office, The Great Father minted big bucks and emerged as the star’s highest grosser in recent years. For the upcoming season, Mammootty has a list of exciting films down the line. Let’s take a look at some of the most expected films among them.
Masterpiece
Masterpiece is easily the most anticipated among the Christmas releases in Malayalam. Directed by Ajai Vasudev of Rajadhiraja fame, Masterpiece is a complete mass entertainer set in the backdrop of a campus. It is writer Udhayakrishna’s next film after the historic success of Pulimurugan and hence expectations are naturally on the higher side. Mammootty plays the role of a professor in this film which also stars Unni Mukundan, Gokul Suresh, Varalakshmi Sarathkumar, Mahima Nambiar, Poonam Bajwa and Mukesh in major roles.
Streetlights
Not much is known about this film except the fact that it is a stylish crime thriller. Cinematographer Shamdat is making his directorial debut with this movie, which features the megastar as an investigating officer. Shot simultaneously as a bilingual in Tamil and Malayalam, the movie is also being dubbed in Telugu. The technical crew mostly comprises of youngsters and that is likely to offer a lot of freshness to the overall product. Like his fans, Mammootty has also pinned high expectations on this project, which is evident from the fact that he is producing it in all three languages. It is scheduled for a January release.
Uncle
Mammootty after a while is playing a role of age role and that sends out a very positive vibe about this movie. Scripted by actor Joy Mathew, this movie marks the directorial debut of Gireesh Damodar. Like Joy Mathew’s Shutter, Uncle also has a socially relevant subject. It is centered around a 17 year old girl and her father’s friend. As per reports, Mammootty has got a performance oriented role in this film, so the audience are eagerly waiting for this one.
Peranbu
There is an eternal wait for this film from both the Tamil and Malayali cinephiles. Directed by National award winner Ram, this movie marks the return of Mammootty to Tamil cinema after a long gap. It has been widely reported that Mammootty has given a sterling perfomance in the movie which has the potential to several top awards. Transgender model Anjali Ameer is playing a major role in this movie. Peranbu is also being dubbed in Malayalam.
Parole
Mammootty is currently working on this film. Sharrath Sandith, a noted ad filmmaker is directing this movie. It is said to be based on some real life incidents and Mammootty plays the role of a convict. From what we hear, his role in Parole is a very complex one with a lot of scope for performance. The movie is being made with high secrecy which has further piques the curiosity of the audience.
Overall if you see, Mammootty has a mix of both mass entertainers and some subject heavy films. Besides the aforementioned ones, the megastar is also doing some mega projects like Kunjali Marakkar and Mamankam. So, some exciting times ahead for all the fans out there
