Honorary doctorate for Vaikom Vijayalakshmi
Playback singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi has been conferred with a doctorate for her achievements as a playback singer as well as a gayathri veena expert. rare feat. International Tamil University based in America honoured Vijayalakshmi with the doctorate in a function held in Chennai. University chancellor Dr Selvin Kumar presented her the doctorate.
The University has awarded her the doctorate for her contributions to the music arena. Vijayalakshmi expressed her sincere gratitude to the university and well wishers for supporting her.
Recently, Vijayalakshmi secured a twin record by playing the maximum number of songs in the shortest time on Gayathri veena, a single string musical instrument. She played various songs on the Gayathri veena for five hours non-stop and secured a place in Asian Book of Records as well as in the Limca Book of Records
Vaikom Vijayalakshmi had recently called off her wedding after some unacceptable demands by her groom’s side. Not one to go down, the visually-challenged singer first set a new world record and has now been conferred with a doctorate.
