I don’t select movies based on whether the director is experienced or a newcomer, says Prithviraj

Prithviraj Sukumaran belongs to a rare breed of younger generation actors who do not shy away from doing a mixed genre of movies.

He rarely repeats himself and is constantly in the look for new exciting scripts where he can showcase his skills. If we take a closer look at his recent few movies we can see that there most of them are directed by new comers.

It all started in 2015 with the mega blockbuster movie Ennu Ninte Moideen (ENM) based on the heartbreaking real life love story of BP Moideen and Kanchanamala.

ENM was a huge success entering the 50 crore club. His next movie was the superhit multistarrer Amar Akbar Anthony. It marked the directorial debut of popular mimicry artist Nadirshah. After that he did Anarkali, again a debutant’s movie. Anarkali was the debut movie of script writer turned filmmaker Sachy.

His next movie was Pavada with Marthandan who had directed only one movie before that. It was followed by another one film old director, Jijo Antony’s Darwinte Parinaamam. After that he stared in James and Alice which was the directorial debut of cinematographer Sujith Vasudev.

His next release, Ezra is also directed by a debutant. Ad film maker turned director Jay Kay has made the movie.

Recently when asked about the trend in an interview, Prithviraj said that he never minds whether the director is senior or a newcomer while choosing a movie.

“I don’t choose scripts based on the experience of the director. I trust those people who can narrate the script with proper clarity.

It is well and good if they have also written the movie, because they create a movie. I commit myself to the project right from the scripting stages and enjoy my time during every aspect of film making.”

Prithviraj is currently shooting for the romantic entertainer My Story again directed by a debutante Roshni Dineker. After that he will be joining the sets of Vimanam, also directed by a debutant – Pradheep M Nair.

Post that he will be acting in Adam directed by debutant Jinu Abraham who has scripted movies like London Bridge and Masters. Prithviraj has already finished his portions for the socio-political drama Tiyaan directed by debutant Jiyen Krishnakumar. Another movie the actor has committed to is debutant Nirmal Sahadev’s Detroit Crossing.
