Kamal Haasan criticizes Mohanlal and A.M.M.A for reinstating Dileep
The Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes’ (AMMA) decision to reinstate actor Dileep and their studied silence in the issue continues to be talked about. Ever since AMMA decided to take back the actor, who was suspended last year following his alleged involvement in the actress-assault case, the body has been facing severe backlash from within the industry as well as the general public.
Kamal Haasan, who is known to be one of the most outspoken actors in the country, recently came down hard at the Mohanlal-led AMMA for their stand in the issue. Haasan made it clear that it wrong from their part to welcoming back the accused actor into the fold. He also added that his words might affect his relationship with his peers in Malayalam industry but that won’t stop him from making his point.
“Mohanlal is a dear friend of mine, we are almost neighbors. There is a possibility that he won’t agree with my views, but that doesn’t imply that I need to say good things about him. Tomorrow, if he doesn’t align with my political views, he will speak up and I will not hold it against him.”
Kamal also expressed his shock over the failure of male actors to not have the mindset to accept gender equality. He also extended his solidarity with the female actors who are fighting for the cause and the opinions put forward by the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC).
