Peranbu is our answer to international cinema: Anjali
Mammootty’s Tamil movie Peranbu is keenly awaited by movie lovers across Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The movie directed by Ram raised a lot of curiosity after it won international acclaim. It was recently selected for screening at the 21st Shanghai International Film Festival. Earlier this year, it was also screened at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR). Peranbu secured 20th position amongst the 187 films considered for the audience award category at IFFR. It was also nominated for the NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) award.
Peranbu, according to trustworthy reports, is an intense emotional family drama in which Mammootty plays the role of a caring father. He plays Amudhan, a middle-class father working as a taxi driver abroad. Anjali is playing a crucial role in the movie. In a recent interview, the actress sounded extremely delighted in being part of such a movie. According to her, Peranbu is an unique film and has a theme that is unseen in Tamil cinema. She added that the movie will be our answer to international cinema.
Critics who watched Peranbu at the Rotterdam film festival gave unanimously positive reviews for the filmmaking style and artists’ performances. Mammootty is said to have given one of his finest performances till date. The movie also has Sarath Kumar, Baby Sadhana, transgender artist Anjali Ameer, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Kaniha and Samuthirakani playing significant roles.
Reportedly, the makers are planning to release the movie by June or July. PL Thennappan is producing the movie under the banner of Sri Rajalakshmi Films.
