There are enough and more incidents of movies produced with the support of crowd Funding, which are either short documentaries or art movies. Moving away from the conventional method, for the first time in the history of commercial movies, a super star movie was produced through this financial platform – Lailaa o Lailaa starring the universal star Mohanlal conceived by master director Joshiey.
This innovation is the brainchild of 3 people named Santhosh Kottayi, Bijoy Antony and Preetha Nair and their banner name is Finecut entertainments Private Limited which is indeed the first of its kind in Kerala. Through this crowd funding model of money investment they had raised the part of the money for the above mentioned film. The money for the projects will be invested as equity investments and the returns from the projects will be paid to the investors as dividends which is unique kind of a method which makes the chance of loss very little.
When they started this enterprise there had been only 30 investors but now it has been increased up to 105 investors. The current investment ceiling per investor is Rs. 5 lakh and the dividends will be paid to each and every investor after 3 years depending upon the financial situation and the company. The biggest and unique advantage of this model is that the investment is not on a particular movie, but to the company, so that the returns are also not depended on the box office collections of just one project, but on the overall performance of the company. With the type of response they received for their concept, Finecut is all excited and is getting ready with a series of new projects, which will definitely be a beginning of a new era for Malayalam movies.
