Mohanlal’s L2E Empuraan Creates History; Records ₹15 Cr+ Kerala Day 1 Gross & ₹67 Cr+ Worldwide Opening

Mohanlal’s “L2E: Empuraan” directed by Prithviraj has shattered all box office records, delivering an unprecedented opening day collection. The film grossed a staggering ₹15 Cr+ in Kerala, setting a new benchmark for the highest-ever Day 1 gross in the state. It surpassed the previous record of ₹12 Cr set by Tamil film Leo, cementing its dominance in Mollywood history.

On the global front, Empuraan has rewritten Malayalam cinema’s commercial trajectory with a colossal ₹67 Cr+ worldwide Day 1 gross. This not only obliterates the previous best for a Malayalam film-Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham (₹20.1 Cr)—but also sets a new standard for the industry’s worldwide reach.

The film’s non-Malayalam versions also witnessed extraordinary openings, amassing approximately ₹3.30 Cr+, with Telugu (₹1.5 Cr), Tamil (₹90 Lakhs), Hindi (₹75 Lakhs), and Kannada (₹14 Lakhs) contributing significantly. This is the best-ever Day 1 collection for any Malayalam film’s dubbed versions, signaling its pan-Indian appeal.

Internationally, Empuraan stunned everyone by becoming the biggest Indian opener in New Zealand with NZ$120K, surpassing Pathaan and Baahubali 2. It also dominated in Australia (A$490K – ₹2.65 Cr) and the UK (£630K+), breaking Leo’s record (£571K).

With an overseas opening surpassing $5 million, Empuraan has outperformed all Bollywood films in history on Day 1. The film’s success has truly “overloaded” the box office dimensions, marking a new era for Malayalam cinema worldwide.
