The 12 days I spent shooting with Mohanlal is the best moment of my career: Nivin Pauly
In Malayalam cinema, it is not often that we get to two big stars sharing screen space. Most senior actors are apprehensive when it comes to doing multi-starrers but Mohanlal is different. The actor will be next seen in an extended cameo role in Kayamkulam Kochunni, which has Nivin Pauly in the titular role. Mohanlal plays the role of Ithikkara Pakki in the movie directed by Rosshan Andrrews.
Kayamkulam Kochunni is a period flick based on the life of Kochunni, a legendary highwayman who was active in Travancore region during the 18th century. A whopping budget of Rs 45 crores for its making, which makes it one of the expensive Malayalam movies ever. Such a big budget movie demanded a crowd puller like Mohanlal. His presence is unarguably one of the major selling points of Kayamkulam Kochunni.
Mohanlal came into the movie well after shoot commenced. He shot for around 12 days for the movie and Nivin Pauly says those were the best moments of his acting career. Though they both have met previously in many occasions, this was the first time they were working together in a movie. Nivin is awed by the determination and professionalism shown by Mohanlal.
Ithikkara Pakki is considered as a predecessor to Kochunni. Myth has it that Pakki was the first legendary Robin Hood of Kerala; he and Kochunni were contemporaries. It was Pakki who started the unique style of robbing, which was later continued by Kochunni. According to the makers, Mohanlal was chosen to play Ithikkara Pakki as the character demanded an extraordinary actor like him.
Mohanlal has performed some highly risky stunts in the movie very effortlessly. Expectations for Kayamkulam Kochunni skyrocketed when location stills of Mohanlal in the Pakki look went viral in social medias. According to the makers, the combination scenes between Mohanlal and Nivin Pauly will be the movie’s biggest highlight.
