Adoor Gopalakrishnan against Baahubali
SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus Baahubali 2: The Conclusion continues to wreak havoc in the box office all across the country. The movie has already grossed over Rs 1600 crores and is currently the second highest grosser in Indian cinema after Aamir Khan’s Dangal. The Baahubali franchise has emerged a huge success proving the real potential of Indian movies in the global market.
However, legendary filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan feels that Baahubali has not contributed anything to Indian cinema. According to him, Baahubali is just another Patala Bhairavi, a Telugu fantasy film released back in 1951. He added that he would not even spend Rs 10 for watching this movie.
It is worth a mention that Adoor Gopalakrishnan had come out criticising the jury when Baahubali: The Beginning won the National Award for best film in 2015. He felt that National Award, and how it was instituted to award high quality films. He said, “When Bahubali gets a National Award, it’s devastating and sends a bad message to influencers.”
Meanwhile, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion has crossed it’s first month of theatrical run. The movie’s Hindi version recently created a new record by becoming the first ever Hindi film to earn Rs 500 crores. Apart from this, it has also become the first film to gross over Rs 300 crores in the twin Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The makers are now planning a wide release in China.
