I appreciate Mammootty for talking for us: Kamal Haasan
Artists and filmmakers have often complained about being secluded in award functions and film festivals. There has been a general conception that Indian cinema is primarily Bollywood, but the fact of the matter is regional cinema from the South are no less than Bollywood. Movies like Baahubali and Enthiran have made heads the South Indian film fraternity proud.
Kamal Haasan, one of the biggest actors in the country recently talked about his thoughts on the dissimilitude prevalent in the film industry. He said, “Producers and actors from the Bombay film institute only support Bollywood movies. Mammootty was the first to talk about this during the IFFI (International Film Festival of India). I appreciate Mammootty for openly talking about a truth that no one else was willing to do. It was only after that, they started a IFFI for the South industry also.”
Mammootty back in 2006, lamented the Bollywood invasion in the International Film Festival (IFFI), at Goa.
He said, “There is Bollywood invasion in the film festival. The organizers have not acknowledged Malayalam cinema and the vibrant film industry in Kerala.”
Mammootty is not known for mincing his words. He has openly talked about many issues that other prominent stars often shy away from.
