Bairavaa and Singam 3 were failures, still Vijay and Suriya celebrated their success: Tamil Nadu distributor
We had recently reported about Tamil Nadu distributors expressing their unhappiness over the failures of many movies in the past seven months. A Whatsapp audio clip by Subramaniam, a distributor from the Coimbatore region has gone viral. He has alleged that many movies that were declared to be superhit successes were actually failures at the box office. The movies include Rajinikanth’s Kabali, Vijay’s Bairavaa, Suriya’s Singam 3, Sivakarthikeyan’s Remo, Karthi’s Kaashmora, Vishal’s Kaththi Sandai, Jayam Ravi’s Bogan and Dhanush’s Thodari and Kodi.
What’s more shocking is that, despite the failures of these movies stars have been celebrating their success. The distributors allege that the producers produce fake collection reports to over hype the movie and the stars wish to believe that all their movies are commercially successful.
The distributors are against the practice of holding success meetings immediately after the film’s release, gifting luxury cars and gold chains when the distributors and theatre owners are suffering huge losses. Suriya recently presented a Toyota Fortuner to director Hari after Singam 3 release and Vijay gifted gold chains to the Bairavaa crew. He accused that these stars are riding on fake box-office collections to safeguard their stardom.
Subramaniam added that the distributors and exhibitors will be to come together to stop this trend which is destroying the industry. They are planning to issue red cards for stars whose films are not viable at the cost at which they have been purchased.
