Critics Choice Film Awards 2020: Mammootty wins Best Actor award for Unda
Critics Choice Film Awards recognised and rewarded the best cinema from 8 Indian languages. Award winners for the year 2019 were announced last day. From Malayalam cinema, superstar Mammootty won the award for Best Actor for his performance in ‘Unda’. He committed with the likes of Asif Ali (Kettyolaan Ente Malakha), Nivin Pauly (Moothon), Suraj Venjaramoodu (Vikrithi) and Soubin Shahir (Kumbalangi Nights).
‘Unda’ directed by Khalid Rahman had Mammootty in the role of a sub-Inspector. His character Manikandan is an everyday policeman that is totally in contrast to the fiery, forthright cop roles that the star is well known for. Upon release, Mammootty’s restrained performance was appreciated unanimously. The film also emerged as a success at the box office.
Other Critics Choice award winners from Malayalam cinema include:
Best Actress: Parvathy (Uyare)
Best Film: (Kumbalangi Nights)
Best Director: Aashiq Abu (Virus)
Best Writing: Syam Pushkaran (Kumbalangi Nights)
