Film groups meeting with Minister goes in vain; Christmas releases to be cancelled
In an attempt to resolve the ongoing issue between the theatre owners and the producers, minister AK Balan arranged meeting with all the groups in the Government Guest House in Wadakkanchery. But the meeting proved unsuccessful as the groups failed to reach a consensus. The meeting was attended by Producers Association, Film Exhibitors Federation and the Distributors Association.
The theatre owners association Film Exhibitors Federation have demanded a 50-50 share on the theaterical collections. Both the producers association and the distributors association have not complied with the demand stating that it will cause huge losses for them. Minister AK Balan has said that a judicial committee will be formed to solve the issues between the various film groups.
Mohanlal’s family entertainer Munthirivallikalal Thalirkkumbol, Prithviraj’s horror thriller Ezra, Dulquer Salmaan’s Jomonte Suvisheshangal and Jayasurya-Siddique team’s Fukri are the major releases from Mollywood scheduled to release this Christmas.
This new development will a massive set back for the makers as they have already invested large amounts in promotions and advertisements for a Christmas release. Not releasing during the holiday season will also have a great impact in the commercial prospects of the movie.
However there will be no issue for non-Malayalam releases. Aamir Khan’s Dangal and Suriya’s Singam 3 will be releasing as per the schedule.
