Finally producers reveal the much awaited release date of 2.0!
If there is one film that the whole nation is eagerly waiting for, then it has to be 2.0, the much talked about sci-fi magnum opus directed by Shankar. With two of Indian cinema’s biggest superstars, Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar in the lead roles, the movie has tremendous expectations among the audience. Made on a lavish budget of around Rs 450 crores, it is said to be the most expensive Indian film ever.
A lot of speculations have been doing the rounds about its release date. The movie was initially slated to hit screens for the coming Republic day weekend in January but extensive post-production works has forced the makers to push the release date further. Following the strategy of SS Rajamouli’s historic hit Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, 2.0 is also set for a grand summer release.
Lyca Productions, the producers of 2.0, released a press statement last day informing that the movie will have a worldwide release in April. Though the exact date has not yet been announced, it is widely speculated that the makers are working towards an April 27 release.
Last year, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion had released on April 28 and went on to become a massive blockbuster ruling all summer. 2.0 is also expected to be repeat the same or even better the business of SS Rajamouli’s film. Since 2.0 has been postponed officially, Akshay Kumar’s Hindi film Padman will release in that slot in January.
The pending VFX and animatronic works of 2.0 are currently being handled by various organisations from more than 10 countries. Legacy Effects, Tau Films, Quantum FX, Double Negative and national award-winning VFX supervisor Srinivas Mohan are all involved in the post-production process.
