Geeta Phogat didn’t win the gold medal as shown in Dangal Watch Video
Aamir Khan’s latest release Dangal hit the screens worldwide on December 23rd. The movie is getting unanimous appreciation from the critics and the auidence.
Dangal is rated as one of the best sports movies of all time in Indian cinema. The movie is based on the real life of Mahavir Singh Phogat, a wrestler from Haryana who trained his two daughters – Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari – to become champion wrestlers.
Dangak directed by Nitesh Tiwari, showcases the journey of Aamir Khan’s character and the two girls from their rigorous training from childhood to finally achieving glory for the country.
The Commonwealth Games final is one of the most defining moments of the movie. Fathima Sana Sheikh’s knockout performance in this particular sequence is nothing short of outstanding.
However, the makers have taken some cinematic liberties to spice up the scene and turn into an edge of the seat watch.
In real life the 28 year old Geeta Phogat won the gold medal in 55 kg free style wrestling in the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi. The 28-year-old became the first ever Indian women wrestler to win a gold medal in the Commonwealth Games.
Here’s the original video from that 55kg freestyle final bout where Geeta defeated Emily Bensted from Australia.
