Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 changes hands as Lyca Productions enter the scene!
Recently, director Shankar and Kamal Haasan took everyone by surprise by announcing a sequel to their 1996 classic film Indian. The project was announced officially on the Bigg Boss Tamil finale stage, which was hosted by Kamal. Dil Raju of the famous Sri Venkateswara Creations was also present for the announcement. He was supposed to fund this highly ambitious project.
In a latest turn of events, it is reported that the project has been taken over by Lyca Productions since the producer of the original, AM Ratnam, is claiming royalty for the title. The latter who owns the title wants to be compensated for going ahead with the project without his consent. Dil Raju had to exit the project as AM Ratnam was not willing for any negotiations.
Lyca Productions are set to take over the movie and negotiations are already underway. Apparently, the banner had showed interest in producing the movie as Shankar is already working with them for 2.0, which is said to be the most expensive Indian film currently under production. They have also funded other biggies like Kaththi, Khaidi No. 150 and Kamal’s upcoming multilingual Sabaash Naidu.
Indian 2 is being planned as a bilingual to be made in Tamil and Telugu. Pre-production works for the movies will start early next year after Shankar is free from his commitments for 2.0. Kamal is also expected to finish his works for the long delayed Vishwaroopam 2 and Sabaash Naidu.
Reportedly, Kamal will be shedding weight for his role of Senapathy in Indian 2. He will be working with a special trainer from the US to help him lose the extra pounds. Ace cinematographer Ravi Varman has been brought and AR Rahman is also expected to join the team soon. More details regarding the other cast members is expected to be made official soon.
