Kamal Haasan’s Uttama Villain now goes Hollywood
Kamal Haasan is an unparalleled genius and he has proved that time and again with his works. Apart from being an actor par excellence, he is an amazing scenarist and filmmaker. He always strives to contribute something unique unlike the usual money spinners.
His 2015 film Uttama Villain was one such movie that was highly appreciated by the critics but failed to do well in the box office. The movie is centred around superstar Manoranjan who is in his final days after being diagnosed with a terminal cancer. Manoranjan before leaving the world wants to do a movie that will be etched in the memory of the audience eternally.
Uttama Villain is widely rated as a brilliant piece of cinema but unfortunately it was a commercial failure. Though the movie had it’s own share of flaws, all that could be easily overlooked for Kamal Haasan’s brilliant performance and the unique narrative.
After screening in several international film festivals, Uttama Villain is now going west. The upcoming Hollywood movie The Hero, directed by Brett Haley has almost the same storyline as that of Uttama Villain. The core plot is believed to be inspired from the Kamal Haasan film. The Hero is written by written by Brett Haley and Marc Basch.
The Hero starring Sam Elliott, Laura Prepon, Krysten Ritter and Nick Offerman was premiered at the Sundance Film Festival recently. The movie is slated to have it’s theatrical release on June 9 this year.
