Kappela and Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal among the top 10 Indian films watched in Netflix this year
The growth and popularity of OTT platforms have been phenomenal in the past couple of years. With the pandemic-induced lockdown, more people have turned to these platforms, where they can watch wide range of content at an affordable rate from their home comfort. According to a statement released by streaming giant Netflix, India has the highest viewership of films on their platform globally.
Netflix have also released their annual list of films watched by their users. According to them, over 80% of users in India have watched a film every week since last year. The annual list includes films, TV shows, reality shows and kids shows.
Malayalam film ‘Kappela’ and the Dulquer Salmaan starrer ‘Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal’ found a place in the top 10 films this year. Other films in the list include Allu Arjun’s ‘Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo’ and ‘Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya’, the Telugu remake of ‘Maheshinte Prathikaram’. Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer ‘Raat Akeli Hai’, was the most popular thriller film in India. ‘Malang’, ‘Extraction’ and ‘The Old Guard’ were the most popular action films, while the recently released Anurag Basu directorial ‘Ludo’ turned out to be the most popular comedy film. ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’ is the most popular drama film.
