Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Jallikattu to have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival
Lijo Jose Pellissery’s ‘Jallikattu’ is one film that it is unanimously awaited not just by the Malayali audience but by non-Malayali cinephiles as well. The movie has been in the making for nearly a year now. Finally, putting an end to the wait ‘Jallikattu’ is set to have its world premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), which will be held from September 5-15.
In the official website of TIFF, ‘Jallikattu’ is described as a film presenting a portrait of a remote village in Kerala where a buffalo escapes and causes a frenzy of ecstatic violence. Starring Antony Varghese in the lead, the movie is based on S Hareesh’s short story ‘Maoist’. The original story discusses about the Maoist situation and a person’s right to freedom, from the perspective of two buffaloes.
Taking the crux out of Hareesh’s short story, the makers of ‘Jallikattu’ have developed a screenplay which explores the beastly side of man. According to Lijo, it is a satire told with lot of humour. Some mind-blowing new stills from the movie were shared on the TIFF website. One of them features actors Chemban Vinod Jose and Vinayakan as Neanderthals.
Though nothing much is known regarding the film, these first look photos have certainly heightened the expectations. ‘Jallikkattu’ was recently watched by celebs like Indrajith Sukumaran, Geetu Mohandas and Anurag Kashyap and they all had high words of praise for it. As per certain reports, the film will be having its worldwide theatrical release in October.
