Maamaankam had all the possibility of breaking out Malayalam Cinema in the international space: Resul Pookutty
Maamaankam, the period flick starring Mammootty has been in the news ever since it went on floors. The first couple of schedules were smooth but soon after that the team was hit by quite a few controversies. Actor Druvan was unceremoniously ousted from the movie followed by reports about issues between the director and production team. Sajeev Pillai is the director and Venu Kunnampilly of Kavya Films is producing this ambitious project.
Apparently, all is not well in the ‘Maamaankam’ team which is now a poorly kept secret in the industry. Director Sajeev has openly come out admitting having ego issues with the production team. Unhappy with the debutant director’s work, the producter got veteran M Padmakumar for assistance. Fresh controversy emerged after Sajeev filed a police complaint alleging a murder attampt on him. Now there are reports suggesting that he will soon be opting out of the project.
Miffed with all the controversies around the movie, award designing sound designer Resul Pookutty has tweeted saying that it is a shame on the creative community of Malayalam cinema. According to him, Maamaankam had the potential to take Malayalam cinema to a global level but is now tangled in unwanted controversies. Resul has tweeted,
If the news on #Mamankam film is to be believed, it’s a shame on the creative community of #MalayalamCinema It was one of the best script I had read in 2018, it had all the possibility of breaking out Malayalam Cinema in the international space, sad to see it ended up like this.
Meanwhile, the next schedule of Maamaankam is set to commence in the famous Varikkaseri Mana. Unni Mukundan, who replaced Dhruvan, will be joining the sets soon. The team will be reshooting the whole portions once again. The movie is said to have a huge star cast with several non-Malayali actors in it but the makers are yet to officially announce the names.
