Makers of SS Rajamouli’s Magadheera approach court against Raabta
Raabta, the upcoming Hindi movie starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon is gearing up for release on June 9. However, the team has now encountered a legal issue after the makers of SS Rajamouli’s Magadheera has approached court against Raabta on grounds of copyright violation.
Raabta, directed by Dinesh Vijayan is about how two estranged lovers meet in a different life. This unique plot was first seen in the Telugu blockbuster movie Magadheera starring Ram Charan and Kajal Agarwal in the lead roles.
Magadheera also has a similar plot about the reincarnation of two lovers and an evil person who separated them in their last life. The movie, released in 2009 was one of the highest grossers in Telugu industry during that time.
The makers of Magadheera have approached the court seeking injunction. Producer Allu Aravind whose banner Geeta Arts funded Magadheera sought an injunction against the release of Raabta. The production house contends that the Bollywood movie copied its unique story and plot line in violation of its copyright.
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala tweeted about the same and wrote,
“BREAKING: #Maghadheera film makers go to court against #Raabta.. Seek an injunction against the film’s release.. Story plagiarism charge..”
Sessions court in Hyderabad issued notice to the makers of Raabta and posted the matter to June 1 to decide whether the film must be permitted to release on June 9.
