Mamangam made on a budget of Rs 50 crore, reveals director M Padmakumar
‘Mamangam’ is shaping up as one of the biggest films in Malayalam cinema history. The Mammootty starrer is made on a huge scale with massive production values, star-studded cast and a strong technical crew. According to director M Padmakumar, the whole budget of the film, including its making and publicity, costs up to Rs 50 crore, which easily makes it one of the most expensive Malayalam films ever.
‘Mamangam’, as per the makers, is a historic film with almost 80% of it being inspired from true events. The film is based on the religious festival, Mamangam, that took place every 12 years in a place called Thirunavaya, on the banks of Bharathapuzha, for over 280 years.
For shooting the Mamangam portions, art director Mohandas and his team had erected huge sets in an area sprawling over 18 acres. According to them, it is one of the biggest ever set works in Indian cinema. The film was shot across five schedules in Kannur, Kochi, Ottappalam, Vagamon and Athirapally.
Along with Mammootty, Unni Mukundan is also playing a very important character named Chandroth Panicker. The supporting cast also includes Kaniha, Anu Sithara, Prachi Tehlan, Tarun Arora, Suresh Krishna, Manikuttan, Manikandan, Ineya, Siddique, Sudev Nair and Sudheer Sukumaran. Around 3000 junior artists were also part of the film.
‘Mamangam’ is currently in the final stages of post-production. The film is scheduled to hit screens on November 21. Apart from Malayalam, it is also releasing in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages as well. Venu Kunnappilly of Kavya Films is producing the film.
