Mammootty to reunite with MT Vasudevan Nair and Hariharan for Payyampalli Chandu!!
Ever since the release of SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali, filmmakers across the country are behind period movies. But Malayalam cinema has a rich history in making such movies. Unarguably, the most famous one among them is the 1989 National award winning movie ‘Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha’. The Mammootty starrer was scripted by MT Vasudevan Nair and directed by Hariharan.
Exactly 20 years after that, the trio teamed up for another similar movie – Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja. Now we hear that they are planning to reunite for another period flick based on the Northern ballads or Vadakkan pattukal of the Malabar region. This upcoming movie is reportedly based on Payyampalli Chandu.
Liberty Basheer is producing this mega project under his banner Liberty Productions. The movie involves high production values and a lot of research. So, the makers are eyeing to start the pre-production works this year itself.
Meanwhile, Mammootty has another similar project coming up this year. Sajeev Pillai, a former associate of the legendary Adoor Gopalakrishnan, is directing this movie titled ‘Maamaankam’. Mammootty will be seen as a Chaaver (warrior) in the this movie, which revolves around the life of these warriors who plot to defeat the Zamorin rulers. Apart from him, several leading stars from other industries will also be part of the cast. A brief first schedule will be commencing next month and full fledged shoot will begin by May, this year.
