Mammootty’s Cult Classic ‘Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha’ Returns to Theatres on February 7, 2025
The evergreen Malayalam film Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, starring Mammootty, is set to return to cinema screens on February 7, 2025, offering a nostalgic treat for fans and a fresh cinematic experience for the younger generation. The re-release, handled by SCube Films, will showcase the movie in 4K resolution with Dolby Atmos sound, bringing the cult classic to life in an upgraded format.
Directed by Hariharan and written by the legendary MT Vasudevan Nair, the film gave Mammootty one of his most iconic roles as ‘Chathiyan’ Chandu, a performance that earned him a National Award for Best Actor. The re-release also serves as a tribute to MT, who passed away in December 2024, commemorating his unparalleled contributions to cinema. The film, originally produced by PV Gangadharan under the banner of Grihalakshmi Films was released in 1989.
The film features stellar performances from Suresh Gopi as Aromal Chekavar, Balan K. Nair as Kannappan Chekavar, and Maadhavi as Unniyarcha, Chandu’s ill-fated love. The remastering, carried out by the Matinee Now Team, ensures the film is ready to dazzle a new generation of viewers while rekindling cherished memories for longtime fans.
This re-release promises to celebrate the legacy of a timeless Malayalam masterpiece while offering an immersive experience on the big screen.
