Mammootty’s Mamangam to be made on a budget of Rs 30 crores
It seems like Indian cinema and its audience is currently fascinated by epic films. The enormous success of SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali, critically and commercially, has shown that spectacle-heavy masala filmmaking has takers in our market. Inspired by Baahuabli’s success, many filmmakers across the country are planning to make epic historic films.
Malayalam cinema itself has three such projects in the initial stages- Prithviraj’s Karnan, Mohanlal’s The Mahabaratha and debutant Sidhil Subramanian’s Chengazhi Nambiar. Latest to the list is Mamangam with Mammootty in the lead. The project was officially announced last day by the megastar himself through his official Facebook page.
Mamangam will be Mammootty’s biggest project till date. The movie is planned to be made on a budget of Rs 30 crores. Hariharan-MT Vasudevan Nair team’s Pazhassi Raja, which was made on an approximate budget of Rs 24 crores, was Mammootty’s most expensive film till Mamankam was announced. This upcoming movie will be directed by debutant Sajeev Pillai.
Sajeev, a former associate of the legendary Adoor Gopalakrishnan, has done extensive research works for over 12 years to script this movie. Mammootty will be seen in the role of a Chekavar in the movie. Besides him, the movie will also have some other popular actors from industries across the country. Internationally renowned technicians will also be associated in this movie’s making side. Venu Kunnampilly is producing the film under the banner of Kavya Films. The makers are planning to start shoot by mid 2018.
Mammootty has already proven his amazing ability to play historic roles. His classic performances in films like Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha and Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja are a testimony to that. So, the audience are eagerly looking forward to watch the megastar in action once again.
