Mammootty’s Peranbu to be screened at the Rotterdam International Film Festival?
Mammootty’s Peranbu has been under the wraps for nearly two years now. The movie directed by National award winner Ram marks Mammootty’s return to Tamil film industry after a long gap. As per latest reports, the movie will begin its run on the festival circuit before its theatrical release. Reportedly, the movie will be making its debut at International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) this month.
Rotterdam film festival is among the top ten film festivals in the world. The 47th edition of the prestigious film festival will be commencing on January 24 and will conclude on February 4. The festival will showcase the best of world cinema in four sections: Bright Future, Voices, Deep Focus and Perspectives. Last year, Malayalam filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s controversial film Sexy Durga aka S Durga won the Hivos Tiger Award at IFFR and became the first Indian film to do so.
Peranbu is said to be a film high on emotions. Mammootty plays the role of Amudhan, a middle-class father working as a taxi driver abroad. Peranbu was in the news after it was revealed that transgender artist Anjali Ameer is playing a prominent role in the movie. Anjali, Baby Sadhana, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Kaniha and Samuthirakani will also be seen in significant roles.
Mammootty has pinned high hopes on Peranbu. Interestingly, it was he who insisted that the movie should also be dubbed in Malayalam as he felt that the movie had an universal theme that will appeal to the Malayali audience as well. The Malayalam version is yet to be titled.
Yuvan Shankar Raja is composing the music for Peranbu while editing is handled by multiple National award winner Sreekar Prasad. The movie is produced by PL Thennappan under the banner Sri Rajalakshmi Films.
