Manjima Mohan against Kollywood director
Manjima Mohan is currently on a high after the super success of her last release Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon. The actress played the character Leela, romantic interest of Simbu’s character in the movie. She has been getting a lot of appreciation for her performance in the movie, but Manjima tasted success only after a very bitter incident.
The actress shared about the incident in a recent interview. After signing for Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada, she was offered the female lead role in a movie. When she went to sign the contract, the director of the movie humiliated her for her body weight and shape. The experience was very embarrassing, that she had to walk out of the project. But Manjima was not ready to reveal the name of the director or the film.
Body shaming is something that is prevalent in film industries across the world especially in the glamour world of Bollywood. Actresses like Parineeti Chopra, Sonakshi Sinha, Zareen Khan, Sonam Kapoor and even Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have all been victims of body shaming.
Eventhough the incident worried Manjima, she didn’t give up and now has a handful of projects in Kollywood. She will be next seen in Sathriyan opposite Vikram Prabhu, followed by an yet to be titled movie with Udhayanidhi Stalin. Manjima Mohan started her acting career as a child artist in Malayalam movies. She made her debut as a lead actress through Nivin Pauly starrer Oru Vadakkan Selfie released in 2015.
