Mohanlal’s Aadu Thoma inspired Nivin Pauly in Premam
Mohanlal’s character Aadu Thoma from the cult blockbuster Sphadikam is considered as an iconic character, a reference for actors doing mass roles. The actress was at his swashbuckling best in the stunt scenes with the popular “mund oori adi”. Sphadikam directed by Bhadran was a never before seen mass entertainer in Malayalam. Even today the movie enjoys a cult fan following. An testimony for that is Nivin Pauly’s revelation in the Oppam 101 days celebration event.
The event held at Gokulam Park in Cochin was attended by many prominent film personalities including Mohanlal, Nivin Pauly and Premam director Alphonse Puthren.

Before the shoot of the popular interval block stunt scene in Premam, Alphonse Puthren had asked Nivin Pauly and his co-stars to watch the introduction fight scene of Mohanlal in Sphadikam. Nivin Pauly said, they watched the scene several times and that inspired them to perform the action block perfectly. This particular scene from Premam totally elevates the movie to another level. The character arc of George the protagonist is cleverly shown through this one brilliantly conceived sequence. Premam went on to become a massive blockbuster and even entered the 50 crore club. The movie had a huge fan following in Tamil Nadu where it had a theatrical run of over 250 days.
Nivin Pauly’s second avatar as the college student in Premam became a sensation during that time. The traditional mundu, black shirt and Ray Ban sunglass soon trended among the youngsters. But it was conspicuous that the look was heavily inspired from Mohanlal’s iconic Aadu Thoma.
This is just another example of how deeply Mohanlal has inspired youngsters who have just entered the industry.
