National Awards 2019: Special Jury Mention for Joju George
Joju George’s days keep getting better as the actor has followed his State award win with a special jury mention at the National level. Joju along with Sruthi Hariharan (Nathicharami), Chandrachud Rai and Savithri Sreedharan (Sudani From Nigeria) were honoured with a special mention for their performances. The 66th National Film Awards was announced today at PIB Conference Hall, Shastri Bhavan in New Delhi.
It is his exceptional performance as a sombre, retired policeman in ‘Joseph’ that won Joju the big honour. Upon its release in November last year, critics as well as the commoners unanimously applauded his performance. Earlier this year, when the Kerala State awards were announced, he bagged the award for best character actor. Along with that he won quite a few awards at the regional level as well.
Post-Joseph, Joju’s career has shown a remarkable growth. Big offers are pouring in for him and so far, he has been quite smart in handpicking the best among the lot. He currently has some highly promising films coming up. His next release is ‘Porinju Mariam Jose’, in which he plays one of the titular roles. The Joshiy directorial is a mass entertainer that has Joju playing Kattaalan Porinju, a real-life based character.
Joju also has ‘Chola’, directed by award-winning filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan in the pipeline. The movie will be having its world premier at the Venice International Film Festival, which will be held from August 28 to September 6. ‘Chola’ is only the third Malayalam film to be screened at Venice.
Joju meanwhile has also signed for his Tamil debut. He will be starring alongside Dhanush in the upcoming gangster thriller to be directed by Karthik Subbaraj. Joju also has plans to remake ‘Chola’ in Tamil.
