“Nivin Pauly was chosen to play Kayamkulam Kochunni as he has a body language that will suit any character”
We had earlier told you that director Rosshan Andrews is teaming up with Nivin Pauly for a movie based on the life of Kayamkulam Kochunni. The movie is being written by the National award winning duo Bobby and Sanjay.
In a recent interview, writer Sanjay opened up on when they chose Nivin Pauly to play Kochunni’s character. He is quoted saying, “Nivin Pauly has the body language that suits well for any character. Besides that his physique is very close that of Kochunni’s, which is described in the Aithihyamala, written by Kottarathil Sankunni.” Nivin will be undergoing a complete makeover for playing the role of Kochunni. He would also be training in Kalaripayattu for the movie.
Kayamkulam Kochunni is a big budget venture produced by Sri Gokulam Films. The team will be shooting majority of the portions in Sri Lanka, as the island nation has lush green areas and forests reminiscing India of the pre-independece period. Bobby-Sanjay scripted the movie after doing extensive research for over two years. The research works were done with the help of an 8 member core team, which also included history students.
The movie will explore several unknown aspects of Kochunni’s life from how he became a rebel to his love life. Amala Paul has been roped in to play the female lead. This is her second film alongside Nivin Pauly after working together in late filmmaker Rajesh Pillai’s Mili. Shoot for Kayamkulam Kochunni, which comes with the tagline ‘Most Dangerous Man’, will kick-start on the first week of September in Sri Lanka.
Nivin meanwhile is busy shooting for Shyamaprasad’s Hey Jude, which also marks the debut Malayalam film of actress Trisha. He is also awaiting the release of his first straight Tamil movie Richie, expected to hit screens next month. His Malayalam movie Njandukalude Naatil Oridavela, directed by Premam fame Althaf is scheduled for an Onam release.
