Paravoor Bharathan always gave us something to remember from each and every performance of him on screen. He made every character he played unique with his own style of acting. He started his career way back in 1951 with a small role in the film named Raktha Bandham and till 2009 he was active in the film field. Paravoor Bharathan had acted in almost 1000 films in his long career spanned almost 60 years. He had played all varieties of roles ranging from villain roles to comedy roles. His character roles are also very popular among the viewers.
Bharathan was born and grown up in Paravoor, Cochin. His wife is Thankamani who also acted in films like Neelakkuyil in which she played a cameo role. She had acted along with Paravoor Bharathan as well before they got married. He had acted in many notable films. And the films which suddenly comes to our mind when we remember him is Mazhavilkavadi (1989) by Sathyan Anthikkad, In Harihar Nagar (1990), Kurukkante Kalyanam (1982), Doore Doore Oru Koodu Koottam (1986), Ponmuttayidunna Tharavu (1988), Meleparambil Aanveedu (1993), Pattanapravesham (1988), Mrigaya (1989), Gajakesariyogam (1990), Junior Mandrake (1997), Dr.Pasupathy (1990), Godfather (1991), Aniyan Bava Chettan Bava (1995) and so on.
He started the early days of his career playing negative roles in many films of 1960’s and 1970’s. The villain role in the film named Karutha Kai was very popular in 1960’s. Later he began to play comedy roles and many of them are evergreen characters like what we remember in the film named Mazhavil Kavadi by Sathyan Anthikkad. The character named Vasu he played in that film with his long mustache is still fresh and powerful in the hearts of Malayali people and even now, they love to see his characters like that on screen. Paravoor Bharathan’s association with Innocent have given us many evergreen comedy scenes on screen.
He had played fair bit of character roles as well in many films later in his career. His last film was a film named Changathikoottam which was released in the year 2009. He had acted with almost three generations of actors starting from Sathyan to Dileep.Later the old age sickness had made him down and was in treatment for many years. Mollywood had lost a real versatile actor and a great human being by the death of Paravoor Bharathan. A silent light hearted loving person as his friends say about him.
We express our hearty condolence over the loss of this Great Artist.
