From Ponthan Mada to Pengalila; Ace filmmaker TV Chandran’s next gears up for release
TV Chandran is unarguably one of the finest filmmakers that Malayalam cinema has had. A recipient of six National Film Awards and ten Kerala State Film Awards, Chandran is widely regarded for having revolutionised parallel cinema with his complex-structured art-house films. Some of his most popular films include ‘Dani’, ‘Ponthan Mada’, ‘Susanna’ and ‘Kathavasheshan’. Seven years after the release of his last film, ‘Bhoomiyude Avakashikal’, the director is back with his new film, ‘Pengalila’.
Starring Lal and Akshara Kishore in the leads, ‘Pengalila’ is primarily about two characters – the 75-year-old Azhagan and an 8-year-old Radha. Azhagan, played by Lal, is a low-caste daily worker who works at Radha’s home. The movie explores the heartwarming relationship between these two individuals. Azhagan’s past life and the solitary life of Radha’s mother is also discussed in the movie. Child actor Akshara plays Radha’s role.
The movie has elaborate supporting cast comprising of Naren, Renji Panicker, Indrans, Ineya, Basil Paulose, Noushad, Priyanka Nair, Neetu Chandran and Ambili Sunil. Santhosh Thundiyil has cranked the camera and songs composed by Vishnu Mohan Sithara. Bijibal handles the background score.
