Raghava Lawrence to remake Kanchana in Hindi with Akshay Kumar
Raghava Lawrence’s Muni aka Kanchana franchise enjoys great popularity among the Tamil masses. Made on a horror comedy template, all the films – Muni, Kanchana (Muni 2), Kanchana 2 Ganga (Muni 3) – have been successful at the box office. Lawrence directed and starred in all the three films. He is now working Kanchana 3, which is scheduled for release in April.
As per latest reports, Raghava Lawrence is set to make his Bollywood debut with the remake of ‘Kanchana’. Akshay Kumar will be reprising the role played by Lawrence. The actor who will be playing Sarath Kumar’s part is yet to be fixed.
Out of all the three films in the franchise, Kanchana had the most strong content. The movie revolves around the series protagonist Raghava and a transgender ghost. The novel element of a transgender being shown in good light was the movie’s USP. Sarath Kumar’s stellar performance was also widely praise.
For the Hindi remake, the makers are adapting the script to suit the sensibilities of the North Indian audience. Shoot is expected to start in April and it has been planned as a 2020 release. An official announcement is likely to be made shortly.
