Ranveer Singh to play Kapil Dev in the cricketer’s biopic
Biopics, sporting biopics in particular is the current trend in Bollywood. After Milkha Singh, Mary Kom, Mohammed Azharudeen, MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar, one more sportsperson is getting a movie made after him. Director Kabir Khan is all set to make a biopic on legendary Indian cricketer Kapil Dev’s life.
The much in demand Ranveer Singh will be the playing Kapil Dev in the cricketer’s biopic. This exciting bit of information was revealed by leading trade analyst Taran Adarsh. He tweeted,
#BreakingNews: Ranveer Singh will turn cricketer #KapilDev in Kabir Khan’s sports-based film… #1983 #WorldCup.”
From the tweet, we can easily make out of that the biopic will be centred around the 1983 Cricket World Cup which India won. Kapil Dev was the captain of the Indian cricket team which lifted the World Cup in England. Kapil is widely regarded as one of the best all-rounders to have played the game. He is truly an inspiration to many and hence Ranveer Singh has got some big shoes to step into.
Director Kabir Khan is known for his films like New York, Ek Thaa Tiger, Bhajrangi Bhaijaan etc. His last film Tubelight with Salman Khan was a huge disappointment. The director will be trying his best to come out of that and deliver a quality sports film.
