Satellite rights of Mammootty’s Uncle sold for record amount: Joy Mathew
As we had reported, earlier Mammootty is playing the lead in Joy Mathew’s Uncle. This is the latter’s second movie as a scriptwriter after the widely acclaimed Shutter. Like his debut movie, this upcoming one is also a socially relevant film. Gireesh Damodar, a former associate of Ranjith and M Padmakumar, is making his directorial debut with this movie.
Joy Mathew in a recent interview revealed that the satellite rights of Uncle has been sold for a record price. Apparently, it is the biggest ever for a Mammootty starrer. Joy Mathew, who is also the movie’s producer, has sold the Tamil and Telugu remake rights as well for a hefty price.
Uncle is the story of a teenage girl and her dad’s friend, whom she fondly calls uncle. It is about an unusual situation a middle class family is made to face. Like Joy Mathew’s Shutter, the social and political setting of Kerala is of much prominence in Uncle as well.
Karthika Muraleedharan, who made her debut with Dulquer Salmaan’s Comrade In America (CIA), is playing the female lead in Uncle. The movie also stars Joy Mathew, Asha Sharath, Vinay Forrt, Suresh Krishna, Kailash, Sheela and Muthumani in supporting roles.
Mammootty will be seen in an entirely different role in the movie. He is sporting a salt and pepper bearded look for his character, which is said to be a performance oriented one. There are unconfirmed reports about him playing a grey shaded role in the movie. If it turns out to be true, it will be refreshing since the actor has not done such a role in a long while.
Veteran Azhagappan is cranking the camera and Bijibal is handling the music department. Joy Mathew and Sajai Sebastian are jointly funding the movie under their banners of Abra Films International and SJ Films. The makers are planning to release the movie this coming March.
