Satellite rights for Vijay’s Mersal acquired for a whopping Rs 30 crores
Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s Mersal is one of the most anticipated films of the year. It marks the reunion of Vijay with director Atlee after the blockbuster success of Theri. Expectations are naturally very high about this project.
Vijay is playing a triple role for the first time in his career. Nithya Menen, Kajal Agarwal and Samantha Ruth Prabhu are playing the female leads. And the involvement of big names like AR Rahman and Baahubali writer KV Vijayendra Prasad have created a huge pre-release hype for the movie.
The massive hype has reflected on the makers acquiring a huge amount as satellite rights. If reports are to be believed, the satellite rights of this Vijay starrer has been bagged by Zee TV for a whopping Rs 30 crores. Vijay has huge popularity among the family audience and hence the deal for such a big amount comes as no big surprise.
To cash in on the increasing popularity of Vijay in the Telugu speaking states, the makers are also dubbing the movie and the Telugu version has been titled as Adirindhi. The movie has a big star cast that includes filmmaker turned actor SJ Suryah, who is reportedly playing the prime antagonist, Sathyaraj, Vadivelu, Sathyan and Kovai Sarala.
Baahubali writer KV Vijayendra Prasad and Ramana Girivasan have helmed the film’s screenwriting. Oscar award winner AR Rahman is composing the music for this movie. Mersal is scheduled to release worldwide for this year’s Diwali. It is the 100th film to be funded under the prestigious banner of Sri Thenandal Films.
