Shah Rukh Khan to star in the Hindi remake of Kodathi Samaksham Balan Vakeel
Dileep starrer Kodathi Samaksham Balan hit screens across Kerala last Friday (February 21). The movie written and directed by B Unnikrishnan has Dileep playing an advocate with a stuttering problem. Mamta Mohandas plays the female lead. Others in the cast include Priya Anand, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Aju Varghese, Renji Panciker, Vamsi Krishna, Harish Uthaman, ‘Kalakeya’ Prabhakar, Bindu Panicker and Siddique.
The movie has taken a decent opening at the Kerala box office. Though the critic reviews have been mixed, theatre response suggests that common audience have lapped up the movie. After having less occupancy in the initial shows, it has gradually picked up which is evident from the booking status in major centres.
Meanwhile, there is a buzz going around that the movie is getting a Bollywood version. It is said that Shah Rukh Khan would be reprising Dileep’s role from the original. Though an official confirmation in this regard is still awaited, chances of a Hindi remake cannot be dismissed entirely. ‘Kodathi Samaksham Balan Vakeel’ is produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, a production giant based in Bollywood. If the script is reworked slightly, it will certainly appeal to the Bollywood audience.
The movie falls under the genre of a suspense-drama-cum-thriller with comedy elements in it. Dileep’s role of a struggling lawyer with a stuttering problem is quite challenging. It will be interesting to see how Shah Rukh or any other actor who stars in the remake version portarys this particular role.
