National Film award in India is considered as India’s Oscar or the biggest recognition for an artist working in film industry. The main awards or we can call the main attraction of these awards are the awards for best film, director and actor. And of these, the best actor award has more prominence among the common people because of the star worship in our filmy world.
When it is considered Mollywood is always blessed with great actors and always had an edge over other film industries when it comes to the best actor awards with the height or the perfection of acting skills of our actors. Among those Mohanlal and Mammootty considered the best among all the actors from India. Mohanlal is arguably the greatest actor living in India according to many great personalities in the Indian film Industry. And Mammootty is a 3 time national award winner for his great performances which is evergreen and irreplaceable by anyone.
But there is always a stepmother attitude to Mollywood and Mollywood actors when it comes to the selection of the award winners. Even when they are the deserved ones, they were push back to the second spot at the last moment and most of the time the awards goes to Bollywood actors due to some dirty politics of North Indian lobby in deciding these awards. Mohanlal has got 3 national awards (2 best actor and 1 special jury), but deserved many more as he is pushed back to the second spot very last moment many times due to the above mentioned politics. He is the actor who holds the record of reaching the final round of the best actor award the most number of times in the history of national film awards. According to experts and observers he should have been got more than 6 or 7 national awards if the award is given purely on merit and standards.
Same is the case with Mammootty as well. He too has missed the award a number of occasions and the last time was in 2009 when he missed it out to Amitabh Bachchan. That time he had as many 6 different roles before the jury and still they chose Amitabh Bachchan. The jury chairman was Ramesh Sippy, the director of Sholay and great friend of Amitabh Bachchan. No need for further explanation..isn’t it..? Mohanlal missed out for Thanmathra in 2005 to Amitab Bachan and here also more than performance they considered some personal liking and politics. It has started from long before when Thilakan missed it for Perumthachan and that time too it was due to politics as the film experts and observers said.
In this year’s awards last round there is Mammootty along with Aamir Khan and Shahid Kapoor. Will this stepmother attitude to Mollywood continue like before..? Will history repeat again..? Let’s keep your fingers crossed and wait for the day of its announcement.
