Suriya and Karthi donate Rs 25 lakhs to Kerala Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund
Kerala is witnessing its worst floods in a long time as rains continue to wreak havoc in several parts of the state. Rescue and rehabilitation efforts continue for the third day with combined efforts by thousands of people. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has issued a red alert for eight districts following a heavy rainfall warning by the weather office. The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services has also issued a tidal flooding alert for the state from August 11 to 15.
Meanwhile, donations continue to pour in to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. Tamil actors Suriya and Karthi have donated a sum of Rs 25 lakhs to the fund. Both the actors have big fan following in the state and it is indeed a great gesture by them to help those affected in the floods. More film personalities and celebrities from other fields are coming forward with donations to help the flood-affected people of Kerala. Earlier, the states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka had earlier contributed Rs 5 crores and 10 crores respectively. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan gratitude to the governments of both the states for their financial assistance.
The Kerala government has announced that a sum of Rs 4 lakh each would be would be provided to kin of the deceased and families who had lost their houses in the floods. A sum of Rs 10 lakh each, which includes Rs 6 lakh for purchasing land and Rs 4 lakh for constructing house, will be provided from those families who had lost their properties in landslides and floods.
