Thalapathy Vijay’s latest release, ‘Leo,’ which graced the screens on October 19th, has achieved an extraordinary milestone in Kollywood. It has overtaken the final Tamil Nadu gross collection of Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1,’ making it the new industry hit in Tamil Nadu. According to the latest reports from trade analysts across South India, ‘Leo’ has not only surpassed ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’ but has also become the all-time highest domestic grosser in Kollywood.
The film has garnered an impressive collection of over 220 crores in Tamil Nadu alone, marking it as only the second Tamil movie to cross the 200-crore milestone within the state. Furthermore, ‘Leo’ has achieved a worldwide gross collection of over 600 crores, placing it as the third Tamil movie in history to reach this remarkable feat. The two movies ahead of it in this elite category are Superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘2.0’ and ‘Jailer.’
‘2.0’ had a worldwide gross of approximately 670 crores, while ‘Jailer’ achieved a global gross of about 615 crores. There is strong potential for ‘Leo’ to climb further and possibly surpass ‘Jailer’ to become the second-highest worldwide grosser in Tamil Cinema History.
