Vijay visits Anitha’s home to pay his condolences
The suicide of Tamil Nadu teenager Anitha after she failed to clear the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) triggered widespread protests across Tamil Nadu. Anitha was a medical aspirant who hailed from a poor family in Ariyalur district. After securing 1176 marks out of 1200 in the 12th standard exams in the Tamil Nadu State Board examinations, the 17-year-old Anitha could manage to secure only 86 marks in the NEET exam, which was not enough to get her a medical seat.
The newly introduced NEET system has come under a lot of criticism from several parts of the country especially in Tamil Nadu. Students in TN have strictly opposed NEET as they claim that they are unable to afford the coaching classes, which was the case for Anitha as well whose father is a daily wages labourer.
Anitha’s death was condoled by several Tamil celebrities. Stars including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi, GV Prakash and many others expressed their grief with some even expressing their dissent to NEET.
Today, actor Vijay paid a visit to Anitha’s house in Ariyalur to pay his condolences. He spent some time with Anitha’s family members and was seen talking to her father. His kind gesture has been appreciated by many in social medias. Vijay has always been proactive in all social causes relating to society and humanity in Tamil Nadu.
