Megastar Mammootty has been a part of many classic films in Mollywood. Mammootty and Mohanlal are the heroes in Mollywood who had given us the most number of evergreen classics on celluloid. But there are some films Mammootty had rejected to do and later became super hits in Indian cinema as well as in our industry. Mammootty may had different reasons to reject it but those films had a destiny to become hits and it is very interesting to know which are those films that went out from Mammootty’s hand and later became blockbusters.
Rajavinte Makan
Rajavinte Makan was a film directed by Thampi Kannanthanam and scripted by Dennis Joseph which had Mohanlal in the lead role and became one of the all-time mega blockbusters in Mollywood. In fact it was the one which made Mohanlal a Superstar from a popular star. But it was actually offered to Mammootty and he rejected it due to some personal issues with director Thampi Kannanthanam.
Ekalavyan
Ekalavyan was directed by Shaji Kailas and Scripted by Renji Panicker. It had Suresh Gopi as the male lead and with the great success of the film Suresh Gopi became a big star in the industry and later the film Commissioner by the same team made him the 3rd superstar of Mollywood after Mammootty and Mohanlal. But Ekalavyan was wrote by Renji Panicker keeping Mammootty in mind. But Mammootty refused to do it due to some unknown reasons.
Iruvar
Iruvar was considered as one of the best film ever made in India and also in filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s career. It was considered as one of the greatest performance ever by the Complete Actor Mohanlal in his film career. Through the performance in that film Mohanlal found a place in even the Time Magazine and also in Reader’s Digest as well and the first ever from Mollywood to do so. But the role done by Prakash Raj in that film was actually offered to Mammootty which he rejected it due to some unknown problems. The film told the story of MGR and Karunanidhi. Mohanlal played the character of MGR and Prakash Raj played the role of Karunanidhi.
Memories
Memories was a super hit film by Jeethu Joseph starred by Prithviraj. It was first offered to Mammootty and rejected it saying that it lacks maturity in the characterization of the male lead. But later Prithviraj done it and made it successful.
Drishyam
Drishyam which is now the biggest ever success Mollywood had ever seen was directed by Jeethu Joseph and starred by Universal star Mohanlal. It had become the first film to gross 50 crore from Mollywood and became a super hit film in Indian film industry as a whole. But Mammootty rejected it when it came to him saying that he had already committed some similar type characters and told Jeethu to wait for two years. But Jeethu did not wasted any time for that and he went to the other superstar in the town, Mr. Mohanlal who accepted the film with both hands and even financed it as well.
