Swarna Kaduva Review
Swarna Kaduva is the new Malayalam release here in Kerala today and it had come from the team of Biju Menon and Jose Thomas. Jose Thomas known for his comedy films like Maya Mohini and Sringara Velan, this time came with a comedy thriller.
Babu Janardhanan had written the screenplay of this flick, which is bankrolled by Job G Oommen under the banner of Job G films. The flick had got a big release here in Kerala, with 104 screens and 455 shows per day. Jo and Jo films had distributed the film here in Kerala.
The movie revolves around a cunning character played by Biju Menon and his character name is Rini Eapen Mattumel. The flick opens with an incident in which the character played by Innocent, named Lonappan Vallakkali involves in a hit and run case and he calls his most trusted assistant Rini to deal the issue.
Rini is a guy who will do anything to make money and he even cheats Lonappan to make money. While dealing the accident case, some other issues pops up in the life of Lonappan and Rini. Rini’s crooked mind works here and he makes use of this situation to milk money from Lonappan. From there the movie really picks up pace.
We have to say that Jose Thomas had failed this time to given us a satisfying product. Even though his previous Dileep movies like Maya Mohini and Sringara Velan etc were not critic’s favorites, it had something in it to make the common audience to sit through.
But Swarna Kaduva, has nothing in to make the audience to watch the movie fully without yawning inside the cinema hall. The screenplay from Babu Janardhanan was not up to the mark as he failed to convince the viewer about most of the situations through which the characters travelling in the plot. Director had no grip on the proceedings and in the post-interval session, the flick went like it has no aim at all.
The only positive thing about this movie is the performance from artists like Biju Menon, Innocent, Harish Kanaran and Nazeer Sankranthi. Biju Menon once again sizzled with his tremendous screen presence and the use of Thrissur slang was superb when he used his sound modulations to good effect.
Harish Kanaran, Innocent and Nazeer Sankranthi provide relief for the viewers with their occasional one liners. Others like Sudheer Karamana, Poojitha, Iniya, Kottayam Nazeer, Kishore Sathya, Suresh Krishna etc done their job decently.
DOP from Manoj Pillai was decent as he provided some cool frames for the film. Ratheesh Vega’s music was below average and Gopi Sundar also not impressed with his background scoring this time. John Kutty seems to have tried his best to give a smooth flow to the narration with his cuts. But due to the bad screenplay and unimaginative direction, he only succeeded in it partially.
To sum up, Swarna Kaduva is a disappointing cinematic experience which will let you down, if you expect a decent entertainer from Jose Thomas. Biju Menon’s performance is the only plus point in the film. You can watch it if you are a hardcore Biju Menon fan, only to see this superb actor on screen.
