Kerala State Awards 2017 announced; Indrans and Parvathy bag top honours!

Last year, Malayalam cinema got to witness many excellent movies and performances. Kerala State Awards is considered prestigious for honouring the deserving from the Malayalam film industry. State awards for the year 2017 was announced today by the Minister for cultural affairs, AK Balan in a press meet held in state capital, Thiruvananthapuram.

Best Film – Ottamuri Velicham (Director-Rahul Nair)

Best Second Film – Eden (Director-Sanju Surendran)

Best Director – Lijo Jose Pellissery (Ee Maa Yau)

Best Actor Male – Indrans (Aalorukkam)

Best Actor Female – Parvathy (Take Off)

Best Scriptwriter – MA Nishad (Kinar)

Best Screenplay Adaptation – S Hareesh, Sanju Surendran (Eden)

Best Second Actor Male – Alencier Ley Lopez (Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum)

Best Second Actor Female – Pauly Valsan (Ee Maa Yau, Ottamuri Velicham)

Best Cinematographer – Manesh Madhavan (Eden)

Best Editor – Appu Bhattadhiri (Ottamuri Velicham, Veeram)

Best Child Artist – Nakshathra (Rakshadhikari Baiju), Master Abhinand (Swanam)

Best Original Screenplay – Sajeev Pazhoor (Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum)

Lab/Colourist – Chithranjali (Bhayanakam)

Best Costume Designer – Sakhi Elsa (Hey Jude)

As many as 110 movies were nominated this year in various categories. The jury members were divided into two groups and 55 movies were watched and judged by each group. The movies were screened for the jury at the
KINFRA Film and Video Park in Trivandrum from February 21.

The jury for the story category is headed by director TV Chandran. It also has directors Dr Biju, Manoj Kana, cinematographer Santhosh Thundyil, music composer Jerry Amaldev, scriptwriter Cheriyan Kalpakavadi, sound engineer Vivek Anand, writer and critic Dr M Rajeev Kumar and actress Jalaja as the other members. Dr PK Rajasekharan heads the jury for the screenplay category which also includes writers Prof AG Oleena and Dr P Soman as its members.
