Mohanlal is slowing down on the number of movies
Mohanlal is entering his 37th year in the film industry this year. Starting with Fazil’s Manjil Virinja Pookkal back in 1980 to Pulimurugan in 2016, Mohanlal has seen all the ups and downs of the field. He has hit rock bottom several times and has successfully risen back from failures. The actor is now slowing down on the number of movies.
We can clearly see the pattern – he did five movies in 2013, four (including Tamil movie Jilla) in 2014, four in 2015 and only two Malayalam movies in 2016. Mohanlal’s decision to reduce the number of movies has paid off because both his Malayalam movies last year, Oppam and Pulimurugan, were massive blockbusters. Apart from that Mohanlal is now open to other language movies also. Both his Telugu releases in 2016, Manamantha and Janatha Garage became successes with Janatha Garage grossing more than 100 crores from the box office.
In a recent interview, Mohanlal himself admitted that he will be slowing down after all these years in industry. He said “I might be slowing down in a couple of years. And may be later I might even call it a day. There are other things I can do like travelling, reading books etc. Those are decisions I would have to make later. I am completely fine if I don’t act. I love to take some holidays. In fact, I am a guy who wants to take a break for at least 10 days after each movie. But often that doesn’t happen because of the busy schedules that often get pushed. I have not lived for myself, so I am now trying to find time for that.”
The actor is currently on a vacation with his family. After coming back, he will be joining the second schedule of Major Ravi’s upcoming war movie 1971 Beyond Borders based on the 1971 war between India and Pakistan. He is also playing the lead role of an ex-cop in B Unnikrishnan’s untitled big budget project. Recently, Pulimurugan director Vysakh also announced his upcoming movie with Mohanlal which will be produced by his home production banner Aashirvad Cinemas.
