Megastar Mammmotty-Johny Antony team’s latest outing Thoppil Joppan has finally hit the screens. Thoppil Joppan made the right buzz among the audience with the first look posters and the teasers. Read our Thoppil Joppan review below .

The movie shows the life of the title character played by Mammootty in a humorous background. Thoppil Joppan, a kabbadi enthusiast hails from a Christian family in Thoppramkudi. In his teen age Joppan falls in love with Annie and wishes to marry her. But destiny had a different story written for him as Annie is engaged to someone else.

Joppan is shattered and finds solace in alcohol. This is as cliched as it can get. Soon Joppan turns into a drunkard because of his lost love. After that he meets Maria, a doctor played by Mamta Mohandas. He finds Annie in Maria and the rest of the plot shows the events happening between them.

Humour has worked greatly here like any other Johnny Antony movie. Salim Kumar who is making a comeback of sorts after a long break has done a great job and his combination scenes with Sohan Seenulal has worked out really well. Mamta Mohandas has given another good performance as the lively Maria.

Another positive in this movie is Mammootty himself. This character is a cake walk for an actor like Mammootty and he has given another brilliant performance. Other actors like Alencier Ley, Paashanam Shaji who played Joppan’s sidekicks have done a decent job.

In the negative side, story written by Nishad Koya lacks depth and there is no amount of freshness in the movie. Lip sync was poor in Andrea’s portions and her character was poorly sketched. Also music by the usually dependable Vidayasagar was surprisingly below average. Songs and the background music looked out of place and did no good for the movie.

On a whole, Thoppil Joppan promoted as a family entertainer tries to live up to that. If the makers had invested more time in the screenplay with some interesting subplots, Thoppil Joppan would have been a perfect entertainer. Instead Thoppil Joppan ends up as an one time watchable affair for the families.
