Mohanlal declared Kochi as Cartoon City
On his birthday on May 21, superstar Mohanlal had took part in a function at Durbar Hall Art Gallery at Kochi and in that function related to cartoons and spreading smiles all over, he had declared the city as Cartoon city. Mohanlal released balloons with smiley in to the air as a start of the event and said that cartoonists are purifying our governance and social systems through their cartoon sketches and words for long years. Many popular cartoonists in Kerala were present there along with Mohanlal in that function at Kochi.
Mohanlal said that cartoonists carried forward what people like Kunchan Nambiar had begun with Ottan Thullal and what Chakyar Koothu performers did as well. Mohanlal said that just like we say a picture can speak more than a thousand words, a cartoon can sometimes speak more than an entire newspaper as the impact of a good cartoon is huge.
Mohanlal also remembered that he read somewhere that Jawaharlal Nehru always wanted to be the cartoon character of one of the most famous cartoonist in India, R Shanakr. Mohanlal expressed his wish that the contemporary cartoonists too continue their works to transform the society for good with their sketches.
The National Cartoon-Caricature festival is going on in Kochi City right now. The carnival of laughter organized by Kerala Cartoon academy in association with Kochi Corporation, GCDA, Ernakulam Press Club, Ministry of Culture, DTPC etc aiming at turning this city in to a cartoon hub of Kerala. Cartoons based on political issues, issues based on climate change and many more were showcased at the event.
